What I’ve Been Wearing While Working From Home
So 2020 has been quite the wild one eh. I started the year off by switching jobs and moving to a new agency, then only a few short months later (even before my probation was up!) the pandemic hit. Now, I was very, very, very, lucky to be able to keep my job and continue working from home. I am forever grateful for that, and appreciate it every day. However, it has definitely been a struggle to get up in the morning and get even the slightest bit ready for the day. Anxiety has been high, and motivation has been low. And what that means for my style and day-to-day appearance, is that I’m not as inspired to put together any fancy looks (not that my style was very fancy to begin with lol), so I’ve been depending even more on my sense of routine, and my go-to “uniforms” if you will.
I’m a creature of habit, and I crave comfort. So when I find a piece of clothing that I like, if I reeeeaaally like it, I will buy multiples. In this post, I want to show you some of these pieces and how I make small changes to make them feel a bit fresher or exciting.
To start things off, I have to mention the jeans I’ve been living in.
I love them SO much that I now own two pairs and wear them practically every day.
Covering up the top-half of my body.
Luckily the weather has been getting a bit cooler so I can layer up! I’m a huge fan of t-shirts and graphic tees, and I totally use them as layering pieces in the cooler seasons. I’m also a big fan of thin knits, as I do like to layer but I don’t want to feel bulky. I own a few of these long-sleeve thin knit sweaters from Simons, and similarly to the jeans, I wear them a lot.
Some of the ways I like to ~ jazz ~ them up a bit, is to wear a different or contrasting tee underneath, and then layer on some jewelry. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it works for me! Layering the tees is also an easy way to add a pop of colour, or an additional colour to the combo, which makes it easier to add in other accessories.
Mustard under forest green for a bolder pop.
Baby blue under brown for a softer accent.
Now on to accessories.
A trick that I picked up from mens fashion is to accessorize with socks. I used to be an avid black-ankle-socks wearer, but have since converted to taller and wackier socks. Because a lot of my wardrobe is on the darker or neutral side, socks are great! I also prefer cropped pants/jeans, so they always get their time to shine. A lot of my funner socks are from the men’s department, as I prefer the taller length, and there’s always a great variety.
I’ve got banana socks, ramen socks, tie-dye, stripes, more stripes, solid colours, florals, and so many more! They’re affordable, easy to find, and add a sense of playfulness to an otherwise simple outfit.
